At the center of the power trio is guitarist/vocalist Oliver Ackermann. Ackermann, who has a side job as the founder of effects pedal company Death By Audio, is the Eddie Van Halen, Eric Clapton or, more appropriately, Thurston Moore, of the group. He picks the sounds and writes the songs and is in charge of just how loud the soundman sets the volume knob (11 in Spinal Tap increments).

THE ROCKER & COLLEGE CD release party 9 p.m. Belly Up Aspen, featuring A Place to Bury Strangers and Tommie Sunshine, with DJ Marc Frank Montoya. Tickets are $25. 450 S. Galena St.

The hottest Friday night party is at the Belly Up Club, in association with Fox Home Entertainment, to celebrate the DVD releases of The Rocker and College, in stores Tuesday. Party with pro-snowboarders Louie Vito and Marc Frank Montoya and catch a performance by A Place to Bury Strangers and DJ Tommie Sunshine.
